It is not a secret that most of us are thinking about future (I sure hope so). At some point we start thinking about changing status and everything else like that: should I do it? should I not? If you find yourself in such a situation when you cannot go back home and need to start settling down in the United States you really need to find yourself some legal representation - a.k.a lawyer. We see situations like that all the time - and trust us - this is normal. No normal human beign can or should live under Lukashenko's "north korea's style" leadership. We are constantly hearing different stories from out members about good and bad lawyers. Sometimes people pay large sums of money to a lawyer and end up having no fair representation. Here we created simple database of attorneys/lawyers who you should use and a list of those from whom you should probably stay away.
We urge Baza member to share their legal experiences with us so we can modify this list accordingly. At this time you can also contact non profit organization which was created together with Catholic Charities and Refugee Services and NY State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance: 1-800-566-7636, 212-419-3737 (New York Immigration Hotline - it will take awhile to get someone on the phone). You can get some starter information about asylum as well as print out some forms from Immigration and Naturalization service web site: www.uscis.gov (1-800-375-5283)
